Before, the technicians at fire safety specialist Saval planned their own routes and manually kept track of inspection reports. Now everything is digital thanks to the software solutions from ORTEC and Sigmax Field Service Solutions.

Streamlined and effective operations

Fire safety specialist Saval sells, installs and maintains fire prevention and extinguishing equipment. The 105 technicians at Saval in the Netherlands and Belgium collectively carry out approximately 72.188 customer visits each year. Saval’s previous way of working had the disadvantage that administrative processing was time consuming and not always watertight. It was also difficult to onboard new employees because much of the information existed only ‘in the heads’ of technicians.

Automatically the optimal schedule

Saval’s ERP system sends the inspection tasks for the upcoming three weeks as an XML file to the planning system. Conditions such as preferred technicians for a region, contract types and standard times are included and forwarded to ORTEC’s planning system. Based on this information, the application calculates the optimal schedule for all technicians while minimising travel distance. This helps Saval meet its maintenance commitments more reliably.

Always a complete administration

The schedule is sent to the technicians’ handheld devices, where they verify whether all tasks are feasible. If something is incorrect, a technician can adjust it. The software then reoptimises the planning, for example if an inspection is scheduled on a day that is inconvenient for the customer. On the handheld device, the technician can access all the information needed on the road, including visit addresses, inspection reports and history. All recorded activities are submitted by the technician, ensuring that the administration is immediately complete.
